Current Study on Savings by Retrofitting Individual Room Systems

A current study confirms that the installation of an individual room control system for floor heating systems in residential buildings and commercial buildings leads to high savings of energy and heating costs.
Ordered by the German "Bundesverband Flächenheizungen und Flächenkühlungen e.V." (BVF), the Technical University Dresden determined energy saving potentials of individual room control systems for surface heating systems, compared to systems uncontrolled on the room side. The investigation was performed upon a typical freestanding single-family home with a net floor space of 160 m².

The energy-related results of the study: Local individual room control systems that relate directly to the room temperature have considerable energetic advantages in comparison with not continuously controlled systems. For the intermittent operation, 11.6% savings of the individual room control system, for continuous operation even 21%, could be proven for the buildings under investigation.

The current scientific investigation clearly shows the high savings potential of retrofitting floor heating systems with individual room control systems. The simplest type of re-fitting, and one that is realised with minimal effort, is the use of a radio-controlled single room temperature control solution, e. g. Alpha System Wireless 868 MHz by Möhlenhoff.
